Fiona German

Fiona was our second female Sportiva Events ambassador, taking up the mantle after Trish Deykin retired from competition.

Fiona took a degree in Sports Science & Physiology at Leeds University. Now based in Devon, she’s running a coaching business focused on swimming, cycling & triathlon

You may well have seen Fiona at one of our events, as she’s competed in quite a few of them.  Her Sportiva Events results include Female winner (& 3rd overall) at Roadford Middle Distance Triathlon (2024) and 1st Female at Plymouth Triathlon 2024. In fact she’s won every local Sportiva Events triathlon that she’s taken part in in 2024 and 2025.

At National level, highlights include running the anchor leg for the winning team at the National Mixed Team Relay Championships (2024). She was also 6th Overall at Outlaw Half Distance Triathlon 2025 and 8th at the British Middle Distance Triathlon Championships 2025. And in 2023 and 2024 she competed for the French triathlon team Versailles.
Fiona was also National Aquathlon Champion 2021, 8th at the British Elite Senior Super Series Grand Final (2023) and 9th overall in the British Elite Senior Super Series (2023).

We asked Fiona how she got into Triathlon.

‘At school I was a keen runner and took part in schools XC. I also swam a few times a week but nothing competitive. My first experience of a multi sport event was an aquathlon when I was 16, which was organised by Exeter Triathlon club.’

Then in 2018 she went to Leeds Uni inspired to make the choice as, ‘ the Brownlee brothers had gone there and I wanted to be a part of it.’

Within a week of arriving Fiona was doing trials for the triathlon squad. Having done no cycling before she didn’t make the squads but within 8 month qualified for the Age group Standard Distance Triathlon Championships in Canada (sadly cancelled due to COVID).

During the next couple of years she continued to progress and started training with Leeds Triathlon Centre, an elite training centre for triathletes.

Back in Devon Fiona has found found a good group of athletes to train with & improved steadily. Getting her pro licence is her next targeet. She’s also launched her coaching business Find Fiona @fiona_german_
