Overview

The Burrator 10K is a fast, flat route that is almost all on tarmac. It’s also one of the most beautiful 10Ks in the country and won a Racecheck Silver Award in 2023. Because of the parking situation entry numbers are limited!

UK Licence applied for & the event will be run under UK athletics rules with results appearing on Power of 10. The race is on closed roads & starts right on the Dam bridge.
The stunning setting is also perfect for a PB. It starts about 1K south east of the visitor centre and does one complete loop of the reservoir and then 2/3rds of a second loop before finishing at exactly 10K about 400 metres north of  HQ (the visitor centre). There is just 90 metres of climbing on this course and we’re sure a top runner in good conditions could break 30 minutes. However it’s also ideal for fun runners and beginners and many competitors notch up PBs here.

We also have 2K & 1K support races for children aged 3-14. There will be four separate categories for Under 8s, 8-9, 9-11, 12-14.  We make an effort with our kids races so you can expect chip timing, a finishing arch & podium presentations.

FAQs

How environmentally friendly are you?

We're doing our best to minimise our environmental impact. Here are a few of our initiatives. Trees Not Tees For all the events where we include a t-shirt, we're now offering the option to plant a tree instead. We've partnered with Treesnottees.com to make this happen. Avoiding Single Use Plastics We use paper cups designed to be fully recycled back into high grade paper. Medals now optional We know quite a lot of competitors are not interested in finishers medals so they are now optional. We make a £2 charity donation for every medal not selected. Swim hats on request We still supply swim hats for our open water swim events as they help the water safety teams keep track of swimmers. However for all our pool events, swim hats are now on request to reduce wastage. Zip Ties & waste We only use reusable zip ties. We minimise single use plastics & sort rubbish for recycling after our events. Food is not wasted For events, such as our cycling sportives, where we're know for our excellent feed stations, all left over food goes to the local foodbank. Reducing Car use In Devon where most of our events take place this is easier said than done. However at our Burrator 10K running race we offer a £5 discount to anyone who commits to walking or cycling to the event. We'll be looking to add this to other events in the future. Will there be timing chips?

Yes, timing chips are mounted on the back of your race numbers. These need to be attached, preferably using safety pins, to the front of your body above your waist. Please do not cover them with other clothing. If you attach them to your leg or back we cannot guarantee we will be able to detect your chip and you therefore may not receive a time.

How do we get our race numbers & timing chips?

They will be posted out approximately 7 days before the race for the Burrator 10K. For other races we organise they are normally collected on the morning.

Will this race count for points on RunBritain?

Yes it will

Is there a medal for all finishers?

Yes there is a medal for all finishers & special podium medals for the Top 3 men & women & for other catgories depending on numbers.

Is the course exactly 10K

Yes the course has been accurately measured and certified by England Athletics.

What's the minimum age for the Burrator 10K & childrens races?

Under England Athletics (Runbritain) rules the minimum age is 15 for road 10Ks (and 16 for trail races). Age is on the date of the race. There is a 1K for children under 8 (and children as young as 3 are welcome accompanied by a parent) and a 2K for children aged 8 - 12.

Can I get a refund or defer my registration to next year?

Sorry, we are not able to offer refunds as we start to incur costs as soon as we announce an event. However we now offer free name changes up to 7 days before an event with our booking software Eventrac and the chance to transfer yourself to a different event. Just scroll to the bottom of your email receipt and click the link which says  'online receipt'. You will then see options to transfer your entry to another event or another competitor. For all deferrals you must contact us a minimum of 7 days before the event and transfers are subject to an admin fee of £8 plus any difference in price. We've now enabled Refund Protect on all our events. That means you can pay a fee at the time of registration to insure against not being able to attend due to illness, injury, bereavement etc!
