Triathlons for Children
We’ve put together all the junior triathlons & other junior events we run in Devon & the South West. Children aged 14 or under race only on traffic free courses. Youths & Juniors aged 15 and above can take part in all our Sprint events on the open roads.
Triathlon is a great sport for children to try. We offer different distances to suit different ages & abilities. Kids may decide to carry on with triathlon, specialise later with one of the three component sports: swimming, cycling & running or try another sport entirely. Either way it’s great preparation for later life for children to learn to be confident swimmers, bikers & runners.
HOW FIT DO I NEED TO BE & WHAT ABOUT EXPENSIVE KIT?
A swimming costume, any road worthy bike, a helmet and a pair of trainers and you are ready to take part. Front crawl or breaststroke, all in one go or stop after every length, it’s your choice. Swimmers are grouped by ability so it’s fun for everyone.
Our Novice / GO TRI events are aimed at first timers or children who are less confident swimmers. For duathlons, of course, you just need a bike, a helmet & some running shoes. Any old bike will do but if you’re getting one for your child be sure to read our Choosing a bike for your child article.
Also check out our Guide to Junior Triathlon which explains about age groups & what triathlon kit your child will need. And our Triathlons for Kids page with information about triathlon clubs, cycling clubs, swimming clubs & other resources.
