Triathlon for Kids
All the information you need if your kids want to get into Triathlon and live in Devon!
You don’t need to be a member of a club & you just need basic kit: a swimming costume, probably some goggles, a bike, a helmet & some trainers (see separate article on Choosing a Kids Bike). We have also created Guide to Junior Triathlons with lots of advice on kit & equipment in one place.
We now have novice kids races at our events for children aged 5-14 in addition to the Tristar categories. See separate FAQ on age groups
If your child enjoys their first Triathlon experience then it’s time to think about joining a group or club. There are some great local clubs for learning & mastering the disciplines individually & a couple of triathlon clubs with junior sections too.
SWIMMING LESSONS & CLUBS
Once they’ve learnt to swim kids can join a local swimming club eg Paignton Swimming Club based at the Leisure Centre in Clennon Valley
If your child is less keen on pool swimming there are some excellent Surf Life Saving clubs in the area such as the Torbay Surf Life Saving Club and the Teignmouth Beach Surf LIfe Saving Club. Both cater for children and also look after the swim safety for the triathlons we organise that have open water swims..
Torbay Athletics Club has an active junior section for young athletes aged 8-18. Click here to find out more
Put all the disciplines together and compete in a triathlon. All our events are listed on THIS PAGE & most have junior races too. Keen youngsters may also join one of the local Junior Triathlon Clubs although it may involve some travelling depending on where you live.
